Sun Bum

Experiential Pop Up Case Study

The Brand: Sun Bum is a Californian brand that’s been around since 2010 when the owners started making products for their families and friends. It grew from humble beginnings to become one of the most successful sun protection brands in the US.

The Brief: The client came to us as they were entering the European market from the US and wanted to create a pop-up that was fun and inviting. We wrapped an ice cream van in their signature 'banana yellow' with their branding and brought in props such as sun chairs, parasols and a ping pong table to keep with the 'Californian' vibe.

Sun Bum approached us with the hopes we can create a great European activation for them that will be really fun and attractive to get people educated on the brand. We fully fitted out an old-school ice cream van that we wrapped in their signature 'banana yellow' with their logo and branding. We kept the branding consistent by also fully decking out sun chairs and parasols in their colours and branding.

They wanted to bring a signature snack from California to keep in line with the brand. So we decided to give out frozen chocolate-dipped bananas with a huge choice of toppings. Whilst people were in line waiting for their desserts, members of the Sunbum team were educating people on the importance of sun protection and the different ways it can impact you. We also decided to offer people the chance to get free Sunbum products if they posted with the right hashtags.

This pop-up started in London at Leicester square, and then went to Spitalfields Market in Liverpool Street. The van then travelled to the coast of Kent and its final stop was on the beach in Brighton.

The bananas were sold out on every day of the activation within the first 2 hours of opening the van. The activation was a huge success and you should expect to see them in stores soon!
